Ovi Store

Now that the Ovi Store is more than few days old, comparisons with the Apple App Store can and should be made.

The one thing that Apple got right with the iPhone was the App Store. I know that millions of iPhone users think otherwise but the iPhone isn’t as great as they think it is. The App Store is what makes the phone.

The Ovi Store is a decent effort but doesn’t quite get it. For whatever reason Nokia doesn’t let you download to your desktop. The “related” applications rarely make sense. I haven’t found anything so far which I wasn’t already aware of. The claim that there are already 20k apps is hard to believe. A number of “free” apps are really trial versions.

In short the Apple App Store from day one looked and felt refined. The Ovi Store is still a long way away from that level of smoothness.
